“my teens were a nightmare, I could never wear the same styles as my peers (except for that brief period in the early nineties when we all wore Doc Martens, hurrah!) and shopping trips frequently ended in tears.

As I grew older, I would search far and wide, getting tip-offs from others about shops that stocked large sizes. Occasionally I'd find something to suit but it was a lot of legwork to find very few shoes that I actually liked. I didn't want to spend my life in trainers, frumpy pumps and flip flops. My tastes had changed, everyone was watching Sex and the City and designer shoes were where it was at, a world I looked upon with great lust and envy as I knew that, even if I could afford them, those shoes would never come in my size.

I tried buying online from US and European sites and found a much wider range than I'd ever seen before. The downside was that postage costs were high, not to mention the import duty and, if they were unsuitable, returns were costly and difficult (no refund on the import tax paid, hurrumph!).

I knew there was a world of gorgeous shoes in large sizes out there but why did they have to so hard to get my hands on? It was from this that the idea of Pin-Up was born.
